CHP Board of directors

The Board of Directors of Creating Habitats for Pollinators (CHP) is made up of leaders in their respective fields and their communities. This volunteer group of distinguished community members brings a valuable perspective to how we can best serve Western Wayne County and beyond. Their dedication to CHP and its mission is critical to guiding our work in operations, governance, finance, and community relations.

David Hammond

Founder & Executive Director - CHP

David Hammond is an EMMY award-winning documentary producer — an entrepreneur with a diverse background in professional sports, broadcasting, environmental policy, and non-profit management.

During his career, David has had a wide range of experiences.  He’s played professional baseball, served as a radio/tv sports announcer, founded an environmental radio network, and produced tv documentaries about suburban sprawl, groundwater, and race. 

He’s invested and been actively involved in a CA winery as well as start-ups in AI and cannabis.  He also founded and operated The Hammond Group, a marketing firm, based in Canton, MI.

He is currently the Vice Chairman of the Canton Community Foundation and Vice President of his college alumni class.  A graduate of Dartmouth College, David also has a master’s degree in environmental policy from the University of Chicago.

Tim McNamara

Mayor - Lebanon, NH / Dartmouth FOM

Tim is the Associate Director of Facilities Operations and Management at Dartmouth College, and a member of the Dartmouth Class of 1978, majoring in Geography/Environmental Studies. 

 He is a lifelong resident of Lebanon, New Hampshire, and currently serves as the City’s Mayor.  

Tim retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve in 2006, where he served for 20 years as a Naval Intelligence Officer. 

Beth Meade

Local Impact Alliance / Canton Community Foundation

Beth Meade is the President/CEO of the Local Impact Alliance, the host organization for the Community Foundations of Canton, Plymouth and Westland.  

She graduated with her BA in Journalism/Communication from Eastern Michigan University.  

Before coming to the LIA, Beth managed her family’s retail business.  She considers herself a “difference maker” who is honored to work with organizations and individuals to help them fulfill their charitable goals.

Antonia Nedder, Esq.

Musician/Community Activist

Antonia R. Nedder is a graduate of Dartmouth College and holds a law degree from Boston College Law School. 

After a twenty year career as an attorney she pivoted to a full time career in music, serving as a performance choral director, adult and youth choir director, liturgical music director, vocalist, and accompanist. Antonia created a music program at St. Francis House homeless shelter in Boston, MA, where she enjoys sharing the joy of music through communal singing, jam sessions, and vocal work. 

She has served as the president of Westwood Community Chest, a community help organization in Westwood, MA, and board member and publicity chair of the IAM Strong Foundation, which seeks to eradicate the stigma of mental health struggles in adolescents. 

For the past twelve years, Antonia has served on a review board for the New York/ New Jersey area which reviews abuse allegations in the Catholic church. She was named the Victim Assistance Coordinator for the Paulist Fathers in 2019, and the Pastoral Response Coordinator for the Capuchin Franciscans in 2022. Antonia currently serves as a Foster Care Volunteer Reviewer for the MA Department of Children and Families. 

For Dartmouth College, she has served as her class president, president of the class officers’ executive board which coordinates efforts of alumni class officers across all years, and the Alumni Council representative for her graduating class. 

Theresa Ong, Ph.D.
Agroecologist / Asst. Professor of Environmental Studies - Dartmouth College

Theresa Ong is an agroecologist who combines theory with empirical work in agricultural systems to understand how complex interactions between the environment, organisms and people ultimately influence food production and ecosystem stability. Her work focuses on how biocomplexity in terms of space, time and species diversity, influences the resilience of agricultural systems to both ecological and political perturbations. Specific interests include urban agriculture, biological control, critical transition theory, socio-ecological modeling, biocomplexity and spatio-temporal synchrony.

Richard Paul, Esq.

Dickinson Wright (Ret.)

Rick Paul brings a wealth of professional expertise, community involvement, and leadership experience to support the mission and vision of CHP.

After graduating from Dartmouth College and receiving his law degree from Boston College Law School, Rick joined the national law firm Dickinson Wright where as a partner, he served as trial counsel for accounting firms, product manufacturers, and other businesses. Throughout his long legal career, Rick developed strong, collaborative relationships with clients built on an understanding of each client’s needs.

Over the years, Rick has served in leadership positions with both professional and community organizations.  His experience includes serving as Chairperson of the State Bar of Michigan Litigation Section, President and Treasurer of the Dartmouth Club of Detroit, the Midwest and Great Plains Representative of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, as well as serving as an officer and board member of village and condominium associations and the local Little League.

Rick’s appreciation of the outdoors took root during his undergraduate years at Dartmouth College in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. There he found opportunities to explore northern New England and developed deep pride in its sense of place.

Rick is excited to bring his background and experience to further CHP’s work in building a more sustainable future.

Alec Scott, Esq.

Author / Environmental Journalist

Alec Scott is a Canadian writer based in Oakland. A contributor to the LA Times, Sierra Magazine, the Guardian, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Smithsonian Magazine, his long-form pieces have ranged widely — from environmental issues to travel, from business to the arts, from tech to the law — and have won many awards.

A former lawyer, Alec is a graduate of Dartmouth College (A.B.), Trinity College (Dublin) (M.Phil), and the University of Toronto (J.D.), and has also taught writing at Stanford.

In 2022, Alec published his first novel, Until It Shimmers (Ace of Swords).
